Matthew is a licensed therapist with 9 years of experience.
For a long time I kept getting feedback from people that I was very easy to talk to and that I always seemed very approachable. People just seemed to open up to me about things they were working through and I enjoyed listening and trying to help them. I thought "What's a career where I can help people with all types of issues?" and therapist fit that build very well. Since then, I've had the privilege of working with hundreds of people with a variety of life situations, helping them and learning their stories.
Having an easy-to-relate to and down-to-earth interpersonal style is something that is important to me, especially when doing trauma work that can become heavy at times. People will always remember how they felt when they spend time with you, so I always keep that in mind as we work through challenging life experiences. Despite what happened, I'm always on your team, doing whatever I can to build a quality relationship between us to facilitate your healing.
Clients can expect to have a safe space to explore the major themes surrounding challenging things that have happened to them in addition to exploring ways to heal in those areas. Also, I like to make sure there is at least one actionable thing (a tool, to-do) a client takes away from any given session. It could be a very specific task, going over an educational resource, or considering a different perspective to manage a tough situation.
